The base rate is only part of it. The full cost of a crewed charter week, explained plainly.
The weekly rate you see is the starting point, not the final figure. Understanding the full cost of a crewed charter — and what each part covers — makes for a far better experience.
This is the headline weekly rate for the yacht and her crew. It covers the yacht, the captain and crew, and their service — but not the running expenses of your particular trip.
You pay an APA — typically around 30 percent of the base fee — in advance. This funds the running costs of your charter: fuel, food, drink, dockage and incidentals. The captain manages it on your behalf and accounts for every expense; whatever is left is returned to you at the end.
The base fee buys the yacht and crew for the week. The APA covers everything you consume and use along the way. Tax is added on top. Plan for the base fee plus roughly a third again, before tax.
Local VAT or charter tax applies depending on where you sail, and varies by country. In the Mediterranean it differs between France, Italy, Spain and Greece; your broker will confirm the rate for your itinerary.
